Chapter 13

Me and Mrs. Bones

“Speak to the side in darkness where unfaithfulness hides, knowing forever I’ll taste the tears which come from the wild side.”

Sanders smiled as the vlads returned from the club. He’d lost a few but gained a few more in numbers. As it stood, it’d be hard for such a small pack to overcome the speed at which his race grew. He also took great satisfaction in knowing it kept them on their toes, and even better, took their mind off what was really happening.

“Diversionary tactics,” he explained to Tanya. “The pack’s too busy thinking of what happened, while we’re busy moving on to the next steps.”

“And when are we putting them into motion?” she asked.

“Very soon. Wait and see. Megan has it all under control, ever since she was blinded, she’s more determined to please me, it seems.”

Tanya noticed while they were on the beach. Megan wasn’t her usual cocky self. Being blind in one eye with a huge scar had (more than likely) showed her she was the same as everyone else. Nothing special. That was apart from being a vampire-werewolf, which made her a little different than a mere werewolf.

Sanders stood on the penthouse balcony and looked out over the ocean. It shimmered under the moonlight like the mercury from a broken thermometer. The fresh salty air filled his lungs. It wouldn’t be long before they could hit the road again and head toward the final destination. Each step of the way, he’d positioned his vlads to hinder the progress of Gabriel and the others. Sanders wanted as much distance between him and them as he possibly could. He never underestimated the power the pack had together. With Declan as commander and Dustin as their chief tactician, there was pretty much nothing they couldn’t accomplish.

If the pack ever realized this, they might see they could wipe out the vlads which had already been created. Sanders couldn’t have that, and that was the reason for keeping them running around like chickens, with no heads. Once they had Drake, it was a long trip to Mexico and the Cordoba mountains. The one shaman who was left to be seen could help him create daywalkers, and help him to become immortal.

“Is the vehicle ready to move?” he asked Tanya as he turned back into the penthouse.

She stood holding a large bath towel around her naked body. Sanders licked his lips as she toyed with dropping it to the floor or covering herself up, completely.

“The vehicle’s ready, apart from our things. It’s fully gassed, and the tires are all in good order.”

“Good. Once we’ve got the boy we need to go and go as fast as we can,” he remarked. “It’s a hell of a long trip to Mexico, and I think the weather has something in store for us. I think there’s a massive storm going to hit, and hopefully, we can be ahead of it.” Tanya wrapped the towel around her body and stepped onto the balcony.
